Football Players of the Week: September 14

Box Score ATLANTA, GA -- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Marcus Reynolds (Lane), Jewell Ratliff (Tuskegee),  Amyr Smith (Morehouse), and Kemuel Lawrence (Tuskegee) as its players of the week for September 14th. 
 
Reynolds received offensive player honors while Ratliff was tagged the top defender. Smith notched newcomer honors and the special team award went to Lawrence. 
  
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Marcus Reynolds 
Lane College 
QB • 6-1 • 200 • SO • Calhoun, GA 
Marcus made his first start as the Quarterback for Lane College a memorable day. He led the Dragons offense attack that produced 540 yards of total offense in the 50-38 loss to Fort Valley State University. Reynolds rushed for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns on 32 carries. He added 105 yards passing and a forth Touchdown on his 6 of 20 passing effort. With 37 seconds left in the first half Reynolds connected on a 35 yard highlight toss and catch for the touchdown that put the Dragons up 24-7 at the half. 
  
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Jewell Ratliff 
Tuskegee 
LB • 6-1 • 238 • Sr. • New Orleans, La. 
Ratliff made a name for himself Saturday night against Albany State by recording 15 total tackles, including eight solo tackles. The senior recorded a tackle for loss and intercepted the final pass of the game to seal the victory. He also returned a blocked kick 73 yards in the second quarter to give Tuskegee a two touchdown lead. 
 
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK 
Amyr Smith 
Morehouse 
WR, 5-9, 170, FR, Atlanta, GA 
Smith, a freshman, caught five passes for 75 yards and three touchdowns, in a 29-27 overtime loss to FCS opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff. His first TD catch, with 1:34 left in regulation forced the overtime. In the OT, he caught two TD passes of 13 and 30 yards. Smith also returned two punts for 23 yards. His 98 All-Purpose yards led all players.  
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Kemuel Lawrence 
Tuskegee 
K/P • 6-4 • 200 • Sr. • Hamden, Conn. 
Lawrence punted the ball nine times for 334 yards on Saturday night against Albany State. He averaged 37.1 yards per punt and was able to pin Albany State back deep for the majority of the game. He had one punt land inside the 20 and another went for a touchback, while recording a long of 62 yards. The senior missed his only field goal attempt of the night, and was 3-for-4 on the night on extra points.
