Dragons Produce Explosive Plays in Home Contest Against Allen

JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 15, 2026 — Lane College displayed several explosive plays on offense, defense and special teams during its home opener Saturday evening, but Allen University earned a 43-7 victory over the Dragons at Lane Field.

The contest marked the third meeting between the programs since 2018. Following Saturday's result, Allen leads the series 2-1.

Lane produced its biggest offensive spark of the opening quarter through running back John Christian III, who broke free for runs of 44 and 35 yards to help the Dragons advance deep into Allen territory.

On special teams, Victor Georges made his presence felt by blocking Allen's first extra-point attempt. The Yellow Jackets carried a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Dragons gained momentum late in the first half behind quarterback Cameron Shepherd. Shepherd opened Lane's final drive of the half with a 13-yard run before converting a third down with an 18-yard scramble. He then connected with Landon Wilson for a 15-yard completion as the Dragons drove 56 yards and reached the Allen 26-yard line before time expired.

Allen entered halftime with a 30-0 advantage.

Lane continued finding success on the ground after the break as Makhi Watson opened the third quarter with a 14-yard run. DeMahri Wallace later provided the Dragons with favorable field position by returning a kickoff 22 yards to the Allen 48.

Georges delivered another special-teams highlight by blocking his second extra-point attempt of the afternoon. Allen held a 36-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Lane's defense created a spark early in the fourth when Devin Scott intercepted an Allen pass at the Dragons' 23-yard line. Three plays later, Shepherd connected with Antonio Welch for a 67-yard touchdown, Lane's longest play and lone score of the afternoon.

The Dragons' defense forced another turnover later in the quarter when Joshua Williams stripped the ball from Ja'Morian Phillips and recovered the fumble himself.

Despite the final score, Lane produced 301 yards of total offense and outrushed Allen 188-166. The Dragons averaged 5.7 yards per rushing attempt and 5.9 yards per offensive play.

Lane also held the ball for 30 minutes and 22 seconds while forcing two turnovers. Georges finished the afternoon with two blocked extra-point attempts, while Scott and Williams each created takeaways for the Dragons' defense.

Allen finished with 366 yards of total offense, including 200 passing yards and 166 rushing yards, to secure the 43-7 victory.
