Dragons Get Double-Teamed on Opening Day

Terrance Ayers: On the move!
Box Score (Jackson, TN---Sept. 6, 2014)  The game between the Tigers from Benedict College and the Dragons was delayed more than 90 minutes as a storm with dangerous lightning and heavy rains soaked Lane Field. Both teams were on the field for pre-game warm-ups when the bottom dropped out, creating a mud bogged field.

That was just the start of the problems for the Dragons as the Tigers scored 26 second-half points to defeat the Dragons 39-7. Turnovers, including fumbles, interceptions, and a blocked punt helped the Tigers with the victory as they were able to take full advantage of each miscue.

The Dragons offense was held to just 137 yards passing and 17 yards rushing. Gerald Gaines capped off a 10-play, 69-yard drive early in the second quarter for the Dragons' only score on the day. The defensive unit stayed on the rain soaked field most of the game as the Tigers offense ran 72 offensive plays. Will Lacy, Jr. led the Dragons defense with a total of nine tackles.

The Dragons now turn their attention to the Panthers of Clark-Atlanta for the first of three road trips before coming back to Lane Field. Kick-off for the Sept 13 game in Atlanta, Georgia is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
