Gaston earns First Team All-SIAC; Emanuel named Coach of the Year

Mobile, Ala. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its annual women's volleyball awards to finish the 2022 season. Freshman Kyra Gaston was named to the first team while Alexis Emanuel was named Coach of the Year.

Gaston, a native of Detroit, Mich., led the league in kills with 332. The middle blocker was also first in the conference in blocks with 97. She carried .284 hitting percentage which was fifth best in the league. She finished the season with 424 total points.

Head Coach Alexis Emanuel received SIAC Coach of the Year honors in her first season with the Dragons. Under Emanuel's guidance, the Dragons built a 25-14 overall record (13-6 SIAC) earning the No. 2 seed in the West Division going into the championship tournament. Emanuel posted an overall improvement of 10 wins compared to the 2021 season and the 25 wins is most in school history.

Lane will take on Savannah State in the first round of the 2022 Cricket Women's Volleyball Championship on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 10:00 am. The tournament will be played on campus at Spring Hill College in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. All matches will be streamed via the SIAC YouTube page.
