Box Score Lady Dragons Fall in Overtime
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Women's Basketball) – Opening day of the SIAC Basketball Tournament had the #4W Lane College Lady Dragons going against the #5E Lady Lions from Paine College. Both teams opened tournament action with a bang in Birmingham on Monday afternoon. A tie (68-68), at the end of regulation, forced a winner-moves-on extra period of play. The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Dragons 12-10 in the overtime period to seal the victory 80-78.With the win, Paine (9-18) advances to the next round of the tournament and eliminates Lane (5-22) from play.
The Lady Lions were led by Ashley Watts with 23 points, Janisha Wilkerson with 18 points, and Chasity Mullins with 17 points. Wilkerson led the Lady Lions with 11 rebounds.
Tashara Jones came to play on Monday as she led the Lady Dragons with a career high 37 points and four assists.
Valerie Leland collected a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The leading rebounder and defender was
Deizarae McCoy with 14 boards and two blocked shots.
As a team, the Lady Dragons finished the game with 51 rebounds, The team was 37.2 percent from the field, 12.5 percent from the arc, and 63.3 percent from the free throw line. With the loss, the Lady Dragons close out the season for first year Head Coach
Kimberly Anderson with a 5-22 record. All five victories were within the conference.
