Box Score Dragons Come up Short in Final Home Game

The Dragons ended the 2016 season with a 24-21 loss to the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College. The Dragons ended the season with a 5-5 record and 3-4 in the SIAC.
Neither team could get on the scoreboard in the first quarter, but the Dragons scred twice in the second quarter to take a 14-7 halftime lead.
Marcus Reynolds scored the first touchdown with a nifty 15 yard run at the 9:44 mark in the second quarter.
Raul Martinez added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. The Tigers responded with a scoring drive of their own as Monqavious Johnson connected with Amyr Smith for 5 yards for the score. Alexis Gonzales added the extra point for the 7-7 score.
Marcus Holliday finished off an 8 play 67 yard drive for the next Dragons touchdown as he plunged in from 2 yards for the score. Martinez added the extra point for a 14-7 half time score.
The Dragons recognized seven members of the football team for Senior Day at half-time.

Jimmie Laffitte III were all presented plaques on Senior Day.
The second half action resulted in some costly mistakes leading to scoring opportunities for the Maroon Tigers. The Tigers scored on a Quarterback keeper from Kivon Taylor for 4 yards to knot the score 14-14 early in the third quarter. With 3:58 left in the quarter Alexis Gonzales added a 21 yard field goal to give the Maroon Tigers the first lead of the day 17-14.
The Tigers added another touchdown in the 4
th quarter as Taylor connected with DeAndrw Parks from 4 yards for a 24-14 lead. With time running down the Dragons scored with 2:18 left to play as
Marcus Reynolds connected with
Aaron Thomas for a 33 yard touchdown closing the gap 24-21. The on-side kick attempt resulted in the Tigers recovery and the end of the Dragons season.
Leading the Dragons offense was
Marcus Holliday with 138 yards and 1 TD. Holliday ended the season with 1126 total yards rushing to lead the conference. Defensively
Javonte' Kelly and
Whitney Richardson collected 7 total tackles each as Richardson added to his conference leading sack total of 17.5. The Dragons ended the season with a 5-5 overall record and 3-4 in the SIAC games.
