Box Score 2 Lady Dragons Finish out the First Half of the Season
The Lady Dragons finished out the first half of their season with two non-conference basketball games. On Saturday, the Lady Dragons hosted the Lady Golden Bears from Miles College before heading to Owensboro, KY to take on the Lady Panthers from Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Game 1 Miles College:
The Lady Dragons (0-10) fell behind in the first quarter 16-8 allowing several second chance shots. In the second quarter, the Lady Dragons closed the gap by outscoring the Lady Golden Bears 13-9 to go into halftime trailing 25-21. The Lady Dragons connected on 4 of 6 free throw attempts for a 66.7% in the first half.
The Lady Dragons connected on 5 of 7 (71.4%) shots from the three-point area for fifteen of their total 23 points of the second half. The Golden Bears added to the lead by outscoring the Lady Dragons 32-23 for a 59-44 final score.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Golden Bears was Torborsha Holley with 14 points, while Shaquinta Sales hauled in 10 rebounds. For the Lady Dragons, Tashara Jones dropped in 12 points as LeTrice Ragland added 11 points. Shadae Nolen and Brittany McWaine had seven rebounds each.
Game 2 Kentucky Wesleyan College:
The Lady Dragons traveled to Owensboro, Ky for the final game before the Christmas break to take on the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panthers collected 10 of 19 rebounds in the first half after missed shots by the Lady Dragons which led to a 41-20 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Lady Dragons found the range more often and was able to connect on fouls shots when it was needed. For the game, the Lady Dragons connected on 16 of 26 (61.5%) free throws. They were outscored in the second half 28-25 for a final score of 69-45.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Dragons was Angela Hardy with 14 points. Brittany Wells dropped in 18 points for the Lady Panthers, as Bria White hauled in 14 rebounds in the victory.
The Lady Dragons will take the Christmas break off and will return to action for the second half of the year on Jan. 2, as they travel to Atlanta, GA to open conference play against the Lady Panthers from Clark-Atlanta University.
