Jackson, Tenn. — The Lane College men's basketball program has completed its coaching staff for the 2025–2026 season announced head coach Harold Rayford. The newly finalized staff features a balance of experience, leadership, and campus familiarity — all vital components as the program continues to build momentum within the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
Spencer Wright comes to Lane College after three successful seasons at Fort Valley State University, bringing with him over two decades of collegiate coaching experience. Known for his defensive philosophy and player development acumen, Wright has built a reputation for cultivating disciplined, hard-working teams. Before his time at Fort Valley State, Wright served as an assistant and associate head coach at Florida International University (2015–2018) and Mercer University (2008–2015), helping guide both programs to multiple postseason appearances. His long resume includes mentoring dozens of student-athletes who earned All-Conference honors and advanced to professional basketball careers. "Coach Wright brings a wealth of experience and a proven ability to develop players," said Rayford. "His understanding of the game and his energy on the sidelines will make an immediate impact on our program."
Joining Wright on the sidelines is Kenneth Watt, a respected figure on the Lane College campus for the past 11 years. Watt, who also serves as a professor, previously worked with the Lane College women's basketball program that captured the 2019 SIAC Championship. Known for his leadership and mentorship of student-athletes, Watt's dual perspective as both educator and coach adds depth to Rayford's staff and strengthens the team's connection to the college community. "Coach Watt understands what Lane College stands for — both in the classroom and on the court," Rayford noted. "His championship experience and leadership will be vital as we continue to shape our culture."
Entering his second season, Joseph Reeves returns as an assistant coach and the team's Community Liaison. Reeves plays a central role in maintaining relationships with local organizations, alumni, and youth programs while contributing to player development and program outreach. "Coach Reeves embodies what it means to represent Lane College," said Rayford. "His commitment to the community and his passion for our student-athletes are key elements of our program's identity."
As Rayford heads into his second season at the helm for Lane, he emphasizes the importance of experience, teamwork, and growth — both on and off the court. "I strongly believe that the experience on my staff will continue to build on the foundation of excellence needed to be competitive in NCAA Division II and the SIAC," Rayford said. "Each member brings unique strengths that complement our vision — and together, we're ready to elevate this program to new heights."
