The Lane College Lady Dragons hit double-digits in wins for the first time since 2010 thanks to a convincing 83-64 in a makeup game over visiting Philander Smith College on Monday night.
Holding a slim five-point lead at the break, the Lady Dragons outscored the Lady Panthers 22-13 and 28-22 to pick up the 19 point win.
Lady Dragon guards freshman
Destiny Irvin and senior
Tashara Jones led all scorers with 17 points apiece.
Kyana Johnson added 14 while
Addie McNeely dropped in 13 in the win.
 Lane College Athletic Director
Derrick Burroughs said he is proud of how the women's basketball program has progressed under second-year head coach
Kimberly Anderson.
"We've been in the cellar for years, and coach has kind of brought us out in a matter of two years," Burroughs said. "And to be honest, you're really kind of head of schedule.
"I'm proud of what the basketball team [has accomplished] and I'm proud of what the coach is doing with the girls now."
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm early until a three-pointer from
Niya Royal followed quickly by a
Mariah Hopkins' layup gave the Lady Dragons a 7-2 advantage.
The Lady Panthers would trim the lead to a point late in the first quarter before Irvin was fouled draining a three. The Flintstone, Ga. native made her free throw to execute the rare four-point play to give Lane a 19-12 advantage after the first ten minutes of play.
Irvin finished the first half with a team-leading 10 points in just five minutes of play.
The Lady Dragons will join the men's team on the road as they travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on Spring Hill College in both of the squad's season finales on Thursday.
