Dragons outlast Thorobreds in thriller

Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. (December 2, 2017) - The last time the Lane College men's basketball team was in Frankfurt, Kentucky, it was a game for the ages. It took two overtimes for the Dragons to escape with a one point win over Kentucky State University, 88-87, on January 30 of this year.

Saturday, it didn't take that long, but it was still another thriller, with Lane leaving the Bluegrass State with a one point win, this time taking the victory in regulation, 72-71, over the Thorobreds.

Sophomore guard Myles Lee scored three points in Saturday's game. But none were bigger for the Dragons.

With 1:58 left in the contest, the Dragons were trailing by four. It looked like the game would go to the home team. But Lee stepped up, draining the shot from behind the arc to cut the lead to one. After a jumper from KSU pushed the lead back to three, junior forward Kendarius Ash nailed two free throws. On the other side of the floor, the SIAC Defensive Preseason Player of the Year, pulled down a pivotal rebound with 10 seconds left. Five seconds later, Ash dropped in the go-ahead layup to give the Dragons the win on the road.

It was Ash's fifth-straight double-double, dropping in a season-and-team-high 22 points in 22 minutes. He also pulled in 11 rebounds and added four assists. James Caldwell and Ai'Shontis Sanders both dropped in nine points and two assists in the win. Nine players contributed points in Saturday afternoon's victory.

Next up for the Dragons, they step out of conference play when they take on Christian Brothers University at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn.
