Dragons pick up win in home opener

Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. (November 18, 2017) - Kendarius Ash is known for his defense. The 2016-17 SIAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2017-18 SIAC Preseason Player of the Year, picked up right where he left off, finishing with a team-leading 13 rebounds and a block in a 79-70 win over University of West Alabama during Lane College's home-opener Saturday afternoon at JF Lane Gymnasium.

But it was his dominance in the paint on the offensive side of the ball that had the fans in the stands talking after the Dragons' victory.

Ash and James Caldwell both finished the game with 16 points apiece, followed by Ai'Shontis Sanders, who finished with 14 points going 3-5 from behind the arc.

The Dragons took care of the ball as well, only committing seven turnovers in the contest.

Lane came out hot, leading by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a nine point lead into the locker room. That cushion would be enough as both teams matched each other in the final 20 minutes of play.

The Dragons are back in action on Nov. 25 when they open conference play at home against Claflin University. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
