Jackson, TNThe Lady Dragons opened the 2016 season with a double header sweep against Rust College. The Lady Dragons scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to take a 5-0 victory in the opening game of the season. 

 In the first game, the Lady Dragons collected 7 hits with Desiray Sturgeon and Kyla Riley each collecting two hits. Brittany McElvain made her 2016 Lady Dragon debut in the circle, collecting her first win of the season. She pitched all seven innings allowing three hits while striking out eleven batters.

In the second game, the Lady Dragons continued to pound the ball, collecting 12 hits while scoring eleven runs for the 11-5 victory. The Lady Dragons fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and was trailing 5-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. A big six run inning in the bootom of the inning allowed the Lady Dragons to take the 7-5 lead and never look back.  The pitching combination of Desiray Sturgeon and Brittany McElvain allowed 5 runs on 8 hits as McElvain picked up her second victory of the season in relief of Sturgeon. Leading the hitting attack was Desiray Sturgeon with 3 hits in four at-bats. Also collecting multiple hits for the Lady Dragons were Alonna Moore (2-4), Kyla Riley (2-4) and Sharnise Katherine (2-3). Crystal Apfel added a solo home-run for the Lady Dragons victory.

The Lady Dragons will host the Stillman Lady Tigers for the next scheduled games on Feb. 27 & 28 to open up conference play.
