JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lane College softball team delivered a strong weekend performance, taking two of three games from Kentucky State in an SIAC series win.
Game 1: Lane 7, Kentucky State 4
Lane opened the series with an offensive surge, tallying 12 hits in a 7-4 victory. After falling behind early, the Dragons responded with a two-run second inning highlighted by a home run from Sarah Lopez, tying the game and shifting momentum.
Lane added two more runs in the third, capitalizing on Kentucky State errors, and continued to apply pressure throughout the game. Makiyah Hawkins led the way with three RBIs, while Ja'kai Ray and Kenzley Lowe each recorded multi-hit performances.
Carlin Koger went the distance in the circle, allowing just two earned runs while striking out six to secure the win.
Game 2: Lane 7, Kentucky State 4
The Dragons secured the series with another 7-4 win in game two, using timely hitting and clean defense. Lane jumped out early with a run in the first and added insurance throughout, including a two-run fourth inning fueled by Jazmyne Brown's clutch double.
Saniya Hunter paced the offense with three hits, while Sarah Lopez contributed both at the plate and in the circle. Lopez tossed a complete game, striking out six and allowing four runs to earn the win.
Lane responded to a late Kentucky State rally in the sixth with two runs of their own, regaining control and closing out the victory.
Game 3: Kentucky State 3, Lane 2
Kentucky State avoided the sweep with a narrow 3-2 win in the series finale. Lane battled back from an early 2-0 deficit, tying the game in the fourth inning behind RBI singles from Carlin Koger and Makiyah Hawkins.
However, a solo home run in the seventh inning proved to be the difference, as the Dragons were unable to answer in their final at-bat. Lane finished with eight hits in the loss, with Annalise Stout, Ja'kai Ray, and Sarah Lopez each recording multiple hits.
