Valerie Leland:Newcomer of the Week!

Box Score ATLANTA – Shaniece Brown (Claflin) was named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week and Valerie Leland (Lane) was selected as the Newcomer of the Week, announced by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) on Monday.

Brown led Claflin in scoring in its loss to 15th ranked Benedict with 16 points. Brown added five steals, three rebounds and one assist against the Tigers. Earlier in the week, Brown finished with 13 points, two assists and a steal in a 57-48 win over Paine.

Leland helped the Lady Dragons to a 2-1 mark on the week. After a 57-51 setback to Spring Hill, Lane bounced back with consecutive wins over Stillman and LeMoyne-Owen. Leland recorded a game-high 15 rebounds and scored 12 points in a 75-68 win over Stillman. She added another double-double in a 62-57 win against LeMoyne-Owen with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
