Box Score Lady Dragons Defeats the Lady Wildcats

           The Lady Dragons relied on tough defense and timely scoring to get their first victory of the season. The defense for the Lady Dragons created 18 turnovers resulting in 23 points in the 63-58 victory over the Lady Wildcats from Fort Valley State University. Timely scoring with 26 points from the bench, led by
Kyana Johnson (14 points) helped put the Lady Dragons in the win column.
The Lady Dragons built an eight point advantage (11-3) at the 4:49 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats bounced back to tie the score 11-11 with 2:58 left in the first quarter. Starting the second quarter the Lady Wildcats took the lead 20-15 with 7:11 to play in the first half. The Lady Dragons battled back for the remainder of the quarter to regain the lead 31-27 at halftime.
The second half saw the Lady Dragons maintain the work they had started in the first half with defense to build a 13 point advantage with 6:52 left in the contest. The Lady Wildcats also took advantage of some late turnovers by the Lady Dragons to close the gap to a final margin of five points.
Leading the Lady Wildcats were Daknequa White with 25 points, and Jayme Gilbert with 10 points. Shereba Montgomery was the leading rebounder with 15 for the Lady Wildcats.
Tashara Jones led the Lady Dragons with her double-double including 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Dragons will be back in action on Jan. 16 as they host the Lady Magicians from LeMoyne-Owen College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 PM at J. F. Lane Gymnasium.
