Box Score Augusta, GA The Dragons traveled to Georgia and South Carolina to finish out the eastern divisional games for the season. Of the seven games played against teams from the East, the Dragons finished 5-2. The next time they will face any of these teams this season will be in the SIAC Championship tournament. In the first game of the road trip series, the Dragons faced the Eastern Division leaders in the Lions of Paine College. The Lions (6-0 SIAC) outscored the Dragons 87-71 to remain undefeated.
The Dragons were out-rebounded in the game 50-28, but were able to shoot 68 percent from the free throw line connecting on 17 of 25 attempts. The Dragons trailed at halftime 39-35, but were outscored in the second half 48-36. The Lions were led in scoring by Patrick Petty with 20 points and Alfonso Davis with 16.
The Dragons had three players to reach double-digit scoring, led by
Donald Stewart with 29 points.
Terrance Bridgeman collected 23 points and
Joseph Cooper dropped in 11 points. Stewart and
Bryant Hill led the rebounding for the Dragons with 8 boards each.
Columbia, SCThe next stop on the road trip had the Dragons facing the Tigers of Benedict College. The Dragons pulled off a big come-from-behind 72-68 victory to stay tied (6-7 Overall 5-2 SIAC) for the top spot in the West Division.
The Tigers had developed a nine-point (37-28) halftime lead for their home crowd to enjoy. The Dragons outscored the Lions 44-31 in the second half. With 79 seconds left to play, the Dragons scored the last six points of the game to secure the 72-68 victory. For the second game in a row, the Dragons collected 68 percent from the free throw line with a 15 of 22 performance. They were also successful on 26 of 60 (43.3%) from the field.
Leading the scoring for the Tigers were Jordan Smith with 17 points and Andrew Crawford with 15 points. Deonte Johnson led all rebounders with 15, while Roberto Mantoyani hauled in 12 boards for the Tigers. For the Dragons,
Donald Stewart took high scorer honors again with 23 points, while
Terrance Bridgeman dropped in another 20 points.
Joseph Cooper and Stewart tied for the team lead in rebounding with 8 each.
The Dragons start a big three-game home series against the Western Division teams on Thursday night at J. F. Lane Gymnasium. The Stillman Tigers come calling on Thursday night followed by Spring Hill College on Saturday and Tuskegee University on Monday.
Tip-off with the Tigers is scheduled for 7:30 PM at J. F. Lane gymnasium.
