Lady Dragons Sweep Opening Day Double-Header

The Lady Dragons opened the 2014 season with a double header sweep against Crowley's Ridge College. The Lady Dragons gave up one run in the third inning and another three runs in the top of the fifth inning falling behind 4-0. A big inning in the bottom of the fifth allowed the Lady Dragons to score six runs to regain the lead 6-4. In the sixth inning Crowley's Ridge pushed across another run with their last run of the game. The Lady Dragons added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory 7-5.

In the first game, the Lady Dragons pounded 10 hits with Janzze Gonzales, Sequioa Dean, Diamond Moore, and Shawnae Campbell each collecting two hits. Shawnae Campbell made her Lady Dragon debut in the circle, collecting her first win of the season. She pitched all seven innings allowing seven hits while striking out six.

In the second game, the Lady Dragons continued to pound the ball, collecting 11 hits while scoring eight runs for the 8-5 victory. The pitching combination of Brittany McElvain and Campbell allowed 5 runs on 6 hits as McElvain picked up her first victory of the season. Campbell came on in relief for the final two innings for the save. Jasmine McNeal and Brittany McElvain each collected three hits as Sequioa Dean had another 2-hit game for the Lady Dragons. McElvain pitched four complete innings scattering three hits and allowing three runs.

The Lady Dragons will travel to Tuscaloosa, AL for the next schedule game as they take on conference foe Stillman Lady Tigers on March 1 & 2.
