The Dragons scored on three straight trips up the court to jump out to a small 6-2 lead early in the contest. The fast pace contest had both teams swapping baskets to keep the score close. At the 12:47 mark, the Bears had built a six-point lead (16-10), which would be the largest lead of the first half. For the remainder of the half, both teams battled to tie the score five different times. The Golden Bears finished one last run to take a halftime lead 39-34.

The second half started with the Golden Bears' Jeremy Brooks collecting an offensive rebound and a follow-up jumper to stretch the lead to seven points. He was also fouled on the play and connected for the "and-one," finishing off the three-point opportunity. The Golden Bears led 42-34 at that point which would be the largest lead of the night. Over the course of the next four minutes, the Dragons battled back to cut the lead to 1 point…47-46. The next fifteen minutes of the contest produced a total of 64 points combined with the Golden Bears scoring 33 and the Dragons 31 for an 80-77 lead. With only 3.5 seconds left in the game, Tony Payne launched a three point shot that missed the mark, but was fouled on the shot. Payne stepped to the line needing to make all three fouls shots to tie the game one last time. With "Ice Water" running through his veins, he connected on all three shots to set up the exciting yet heartbreaking finish. The Golden Bears' Jeremy Brooks launched a desperation shot from just past the half court line. With the ball in flight, the time on the clock expired, and the shot missed the mark. The entire crowd of over three hundred thought we were headed to overtime, but a late foul was called on the play sending Brooks to the line with no time left in regulation. With three chances from the line, Brooks missed the first two shots only to send the heartbroken crowd home on shot three for an 81-80 final score.

Tony Payne led all scoring with 28 points while Jeremy Whitmore added 14, Kelsey Eubanks and Sha' Mar Nolen collected 10 each for the Dragons. Jeremy Brooks scored 21and Terrence Noel added 16 for the Golden Bears.

The Dragons travel to Memphis, TN to face the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen for a second time in just over a week for their next contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM
