Dragons Split a Pair of Conference Games
Dragons (Week 1-1, Overall 2-3, 1-1 SIAC)
Game One:
The Dragons started the week with their first conference games of the season with a loss to Fort Valley State University Wildcats (88-81).
Tony Payne led the Dragons scoring with 19 points, connecting on 2 of 6 opportunities from the 3-point area, and 7 of 9 from the charity stripe. Jason Price added 17 points, while Kelsey Eubanks and Sha'Mar Nolen contributed 11 and 10-points respectively.
Game Two:
The "Memphis Trio" combined for 62 of the 91 points scored for the Dragons as they picked up their first conference victory of the season. The Dragons defeated the Panthers of Clark-Atlanta University 91-85.
Senior guard Tony Payne (Memphis, TN) connected on 6 of 15 shots from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line to lead the Dragons with 23 points. Junior guard Jeremy Whitmore (Memphis, TN) connected on 8 of 14 shots from the field and 3 of 6 from the free throw line for his 20 points while leading the Dragons with eight rebounds. Senior Sha'Mar Nolen (Memphis, TN) added 19 points, connecting on 9 for 17 shots from the field. Jason Price also hit double-digit numbers with 4 of 7 from the field and 7 of 8 from the line for a total 15 points. For the Panthers, James Arnold led the scoring attack with 16 points, followed by Christian Houston with 14 points and Dwayne Bingham with 11.
The Dragons are set to play three SIAC games starting with Claflin University on January 6 in Orangeburg, SC. The Tigers of Benedict College travels to Jackson, TN for a contest on January 9. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM at the Oman arena. The final game of the week is in Augusta, GA as the Dragons take on the Lions of Paine College on January 11.
