Slow Start for Dragons Costly

Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Central State University for homecoming, the Dragons had a quick turnaround week. They were faced with traveling to Fairfield, AL to take on the Golden Bears from Miles College on Thursday night. The game drew national attention because it was the first football game in history to include four female officials. The Golden Bears offense produced 21 points in the first quarter forcing the Dragons with an uphill battle for a comeback.

1st quarter:
The Golden Bears quarterback (David Thomas) threw three touchdowns in the first quarter before the Dragons could get on the scoreboard. Thomas connected with Darren Fife for 20 yards for the first touchdown. He then found Delarius Webb from six yards for the second score, followed by a 45-yard connection to Earnest Bell and a 21-0 score. The Dragons would answer with a nine-play, 74-yard drive as Chris Rini punched it in from one yard for a 21-7 score after one quarter of play.

2nd Quarter:
The Dragons outscored the Golden Bears 13-10 in the second quarter as Rini connected with Gregory Moore, for 19 yards and a touchdown. Later in the quarter, Rini found Bradley Landrum open from 14 yards out for the second score of the quarter. The extra point was blocked giving the Dragons 13 points in the second quarter. The Golden Bears scored as Floyd Graves carried it to the end zone from five yards, and Jason Coste connected on a 34 -yard field goal for a halftime score 31-20.

3rd Quarter:
The Golden Bears scored their last touchdown of the evening in the third quarter with a Special Teams touchdown. A blocked punt carried into the end zone ended up in the arms of a Golden Bear for the 38-20 lead.

4th Quarter:
The Dragons mounted a comeback effort and scored another touchdown with 10:23 left on the clock. Rini found (FR-WR, Memphis, TN) Jamion Dunning open for 34 yards and a Dragons touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good for a final score of 38-26.

On the day Chris Rini rushed for one touchdown while completing 33 of 51 passes for 3 touchdowns and 390 yards. Bradley Landrum hauled in 12 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Jamion Dunning collected 8 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. Defensively Jerry Carter led the Dragons with 13 total tackles. Christopher Rayborn also had a double-digit day with 10 total tackles.

The Dragons are now 4-4 overall and 1-3 in divisional play. The Dragons will recognize their seniors on November 2 as they host Kentucky State University. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 PM at Lane Field.
