The Golden Tigers from Tuskegee University scored two touchdowns early in the first quarter that forced the Dragons to play from behind the remainder of the game. Tigers' running back Derrick Washington scored from 3 yards out that completed a 6-play 34-yard drive for the first score of the game and a 7-0 Golden Tiger lead. The Dragons' first possession resulted in a quick 4 plays giving the ball back to the Golden Tigers. Washington again finished off a Tiger drive resulting in a second touchdown run and a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The second possession by the Dragons offensive unit started off with Quarterback Chris Rini finding running back Eric Knowlton open for a 9-yard pass play. The next play was another connection from Rini to Hollis Moore for another 16 yards and a Dragons' 1st down. Later in the drive, Rini connected once again with Moore for another 17 yards and another 1st down. As the drive stalled out, the Dragons elected to attempt a field goal from 38 yards which sailed left of the goal post.
Costly turnovers in the second quarter created scoring opportunities for the Golden Tigers as they scored four touchdowns extending their lead to 42-0 at halftime. With the Dragons' offensive unit trying to make something happen, the Golden Tigers capitalized on three interceptions that led to scores. Washington then added his third rushing touchdown from 1 yard out for the final score of the quarter.
The second half of the game was a different story as the Dragons defense dominated the line of scrimmage…holding the Golden Tigers to one field goal the rest of the game. The Dragons got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a 22-yard field goal by David Castillo. In the fourth quarter, the Dragons offensive unit moved the ball 65 yards on 10 plays for the first touchdown of the quarter. Rini found Evan Yabu open for a 20-yard grab and go for the score. The Dragons' defensive unit forced the Golden Tigers to punt, setting up the offense with good field position. Malcolm Morris scrambled for 23 yards on the first play moving the ball into Golden Tiger territory. Rini then connected on a pass to Hollis Moore for another 40 yards, placing the ball at the 10 yard line. Devon Perry hauled in the next pass from Rini crossing the goal line for the second touchdown of the quarter for the 45-17 final.
The Dragons take to the road again for their next contest as they travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Maroon Tigers from Morehouse College on September 22.
