Goode and Matthewis Lead SIAC Basketball Weekly Honors
Atlanta, GA—Benedict sophomore Marcus Goode and Kentucky State junior Courtney Matthewis were named SIAC Men's and Women's Players of the Week, respectively, after their impressive performances this past week. Morehouse sophomore Daniyal Faquir and Lane junior Natasha Farr were named SIAC Newcomers of the Week after their strong performances.
Goode was dominant this past week, averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds in three wins over Albany State, Fort Valley State, and Paine. Defensively, the Chapin, SC native averaged an astonishing six blocks per game. The 6-10, 255-pound center posted his second triple-double of the season with 30 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 blocks against Paine. Goode currently leads the SIAC with 11.7 rebounds per game and 3.9 blocks per game. He also ranks fourth in scoring averaging 17.4 points per contest.
Matthewis, a native of Houston, TX, earned her second player of the week honor this season after averaging 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and three assists in two games including a 19-point performance against Stillman. The 5-11 guard also averaged 1.5 steals and one block per game on the defensive front. She helped lead the Thorobrettes to a 2-0 record with victories over Stillman and Tuskegee.
Faquir, a native of Pasadena, CA, had a huge week scoring the ball, averaging 22.7 points in four games. The 6-3 guard led the Maroon Tigers in scoring in all four games with 18, 17, 25, and 31 respectively. Faquir also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals helping lead Morehouse to a 2-2 record with victories over LeMoyne-Owen and Lane.
Farr, a native of Racine, WI, averaged 13 points and 4.3 assists in three games. The 6-1 forward also averaged one assist, one steal, and one block while helping lead the Lady Dragons to a 2-1 record with victories over Tuskegee and Stillman.
