Lane dominates Kentucky State

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lane College women's basketball team put together a dominant second-half performance Wednesday night, defeating Kentucky State 74–48 at J F Lane Gymnasium.

With the win, Lane improves to 14-5 overall and 13-5 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

After a tightly contested first quarter that ended 11-11, Lane found its rhythm in the second period. The home team outscored Kentucky State 24-13 in the frame, using defensive pressure and timely scoring runs to build a 35-24 halftime advantage.

Lane continued to control the tempo in the third quarter, extending the lead to 55-36 behind balanced scoring and strong rebounding. A 19-point fourth quarter closed out the 26-point conference victory.

Lane had four players score in double figures, led by Lauren Lain with 15 points and four rebounds. Kameria Piggee added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double, while also contributing three steals.

Madison Thomas provided a major boost off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 effort from the free-throw line. Europe Brown chipped in nine points and four steals, helping fuel Lane's defensive attack.

The team's depth was a key factor, as the bench accounted for 33 points. Lane also dominated the glass, outrebounding Kentucky State 40-28, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second-chance points.

Lane forced 28 turnovers and turned them into 29 points, while recording 17 steals as a team. The defensive pressure disrupted Kentucky State's offensive flow throughout the night.

Lane also controlled the paint with 38 points inside and maintained consistent defensive intensity over the final three quarters to secure the conference win at home.
