Lane gets rivalry win over LeMoyne-Owen

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lane College women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, defeating LeMoyne-Owen College 77-53 inside J.F. Lane Gymnasium.

Lane (15-5, 14-5 SIAC) controlled the game from the opening tip and never trailed, using a balanced offensive attack and relentless defensive pressure to secure the 24-point conference victory.

After holding a slim 18-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter, the Dragons broke the game open in the second. Lane shot a scorching 76.9 percent from the field in the period, outscoring LeMoyne-Owen 26-11 to take a commanding 44-26 lead into halftime. Europe Brown sparked the surge with multiple three-pointers, while Kamil Washum attacked in transition to stretch the margin.

Brown led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Washum added 15 points and two steals, while Dyani Bernstine contributed 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Alexis Rowe provided a strong all-around effort with six points, three assists, three steals, and steady defensive play.

Lane's efficiency was evident throughout the contest, as the Dragons shot 53.1 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from three-point range. They also dominated the glass, outrebounding LeMoyne-Owen 33-19, and forced 21 turnovers that turned into 25 points. Lane's bench added 30 points, showcasing the team's depth.

The Dragons extended their lead to as many as 27 points in the second half and maintained control the rest of the way. Lane also held advantages in points in the paint (36-28), fast break points (18-12), and second-chance points (13-6).
