Lane edges LeMoyne-Owen in overtime thriller

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Lane College women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 63–60 overtime victory over SIAC foe LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hall/Johnson Gymnasium, improving to 11–3 overall and 10–3 in conference play.

Lane jumped out early, using a strong first half to build a 36–28 lead at the break. The Dragons shot 60 percent in the opening quarter and capitalized on transition opportunities, holding LeMoyne-Owen to 33 percent shooting in the first 10 minutes.

LeMoyne-Owen responded in the second half, slowly chipping away at the deficit behind balanced scoring and strong play in the paint. The Magicians outscored Lane 16–11 in the third quarter and eventually took a late lead in the fourth. With the game tied at 47 at the end of regulation, the contest headed to overtime.

In the extra period, Lane sealed the win at the free-throw line. Alexis Rowe and Dyani Bernstine combined to score all five of Lane's overtime points, including clutch free throws in the final seconds to preserve the three-point victory.

Bernstine led Lane with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while Lauren Lain added 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Rowe chipped in seven points and four rebounds, including key buckets late. Lane's bench provided a significant boost, contributing 24 points.

LeMoyne-Owen was led by Marley Freeman's game-high 16 points off the bench. Janara Williams and Keria McGhee each scored 15 points, with Williams also pulling down seven rebounds.

Lane forced 18 turnovers and converted 24 points off those miscues, a decisive factor in the tightly contested matchup. The Dragons also held a 19–9 advantage in fast break points.
