Baseball takes two from Kentucky State

JACKSON, Tenn. | The Lane College baseball team (4-5) swept a doubleheader with SIAC foe Kentucky State (4-2) on Saturday at the Ballpark at Jackson.

Game 1
Lane 18
KSU 3

The Dragons held the Thorobreds scoreless in the first and jumped on the visitors early, scoring six runs highlighted by a bases clearing triple from Christian Armstrong.

Big innings were the story in game one as Lane scored five runs in each the third and fifth innings. The hosts were patient at the plate as well, earning 12 walks in only six at-bats.

Zach Elias led the way at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and three walks.

Thomas Arias added three RBI and a home run while Armstrong had a game-high four RBI.

Treviz Brown (2-0) went the distance in the win, striking out nine and allowing three runs on seven hits. Brown also added two hits and four runs of offense for the Dragons.

Game 2
Lane 5
KSU 3

Kentucky State took advantage of some early miscues by Lane and an Ethan Johnson double to plate three runs in the opening frame.

The Dragons earned one run back in the home half of the first when Chris O'Neal walked and then scored on a wild pitch and two balks.

O'Neal then pulled the Dragons even with a two RBI single to right-center field in the second inning.

The teams went scoreless until the fifth inning when Elias scored on a wild pitch after reaching base by way of a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. A RBI single from Melvin Crayton pushed the Lane lead to 5-3 to cap off the scoring.

Joel Ballard (1-1) picked up the win in 5.0 innings of work. Ballard allowed just two hits and one earned run. Elias (1) earned the save in 1.0 inning of relief work.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon at the Ballpark at Jackson.
