With a passion for developing champions both on and off the court, Coach Harold Dixon, affectionately known to his players as “Coach Harold,” enters the upcoming season with tremendous excitement, renewed energy, and a continued commitment to excellence. His leadership, experience, and dedication to student-athlete success have made him an invaluable part of the Lane College Lady Dragons women’s basketball program.
Coming off a remarkable 2025–2026 season, Coach Harold played an instrumental role alongside Head Coach Surina Dixon in guiding the Lady Dragons to one of the most successful seasons in program history. The team achieved a historic milestone, recording its first-ever 20-win season with an impressive 22–6 overall record and advancing to the 2026 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship Game, finishing as tournament runner-up. This outstanding accomplishment reflects the program’s continued growth, competitive spirit, and commitment to building a championship culture.
Since returning to Lane College, Coach Harold has been a key contributor to the Lady Dragons’ sustained success, helping the program achieve multiple consecutive winning seasons in SIAC conference competition. His impact, however, extends far beyond wins and losses. With a strong belief that developing successful young women is just as important as developing successful basketball players, he has helped strengthen the program through strategic leadership, team culture, mentorship, and academic accountability.
One of Coach Harold’s proudest contributions has been supporting a culture where academic achievement and athletic excellence go hand in hand. Through consistent encouragement, high expectations, and a student-first approach, he has helped the Lady Dragons achieve and maintain a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher over multiple years. During the 2025–2026 academic year, the Lady Dragons earned the distinction of having the highest team GPA in the Lane College Athletic Department, further demonstrating the program’s commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the court.
Coach Harold brings a strong educational foundation to his coaching philosophy. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education (licensed professional teacher) from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, and a Ph.D. in Sports Management from Northcentral University. His academic background, combined with his coaching
experience, allows him to approach leadership with a unique blend of knowledge, purpose, and genuine care for the personal development of student-athletes.
Beyond his accomplishments at Lane College, Coach Harold shares a special professional and personal partnership with his wife, Lady Dragons Head Coach Surina Dixon. Over the years, the two have worked together in various coaching and leadership capacities, building successful programs and positively influencing the lives of countless student-athletes. Their coaching journey includes multiple winning seasons at Southwind High School, where Coach Harold served as an assistant coach, as well as their time at Jackson State University, where he contributed as a Graduate Assistant Director of Basketball Operations and Director of Player Development.
Together, their shared vision, complementary leadership styles, and commitment to developing young women have helped establish a foundation built on discipline, accountability, teamwork, academic achievement, and competitive excellence.
For Coach Harold, coaching is more than teaching basketball fundamentals or preparing for the next opponent. It is about building meaningful relationships, helping young women recognize their potential, instilling confidence, and preparing student-athletes to succeed long after their playing careers have ended. He takes great pride in being a mentor, educator, motivator, and positive influence on the lives of those he serves.
As the Lady Dragons prepare for another exciting season, Coach Harold looks forward to building on the program’s historic accomplishments while embracing the opportunities and challenges ahead. With an unwavering belief in the team, its leadership, and the bright future of Lane College women’s basketball, he remains focused on helping the Lady Dragons continue to raise the standard.
For Coach Harold, the mission remains clear: develop outstanding young women, pursue excellence in everything, and continue building a winning legacy—on the court, in the classroom, and in life.
The best is yet to come for the Lady Dragons!
