Dragons Show Second-Half Fight Against Central State

JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 26, 2026 Lane College responded with a strong second-half effort but was unable to overcome Central State University’s early advantage, falling 38–6 Saturday evening at Lane Field.

Central State scored twice during the opening quarter and added 24 points in the second period to carry a 38–0 lead into halftime.
The Dragons responded immediately after the break by putting together their best possession of the afternoon. Lane marched 75 yards on nine plays while taking 5:24 off the clock. Running back John Christian III powered the drive with runs of 13, 10 and 15 yards, while quarterback Crishon Overton contributed a 12-yard run.

Facing fourth-and-goal from the Central State 10-yard line, Donovon Morton ran the ball into the end zone to put Lane on the scoreboard with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter.
Lane's defense also delivered a determined second-half performance, holding Central State scoreless over the final two quarters and intercepting two passes.
Rashad Williamson ended a third-quarter scoring threat by intercepting a pass at the Lane 7-yard line. Frederick Lewis Jr. added another takeaway during the fourth quarter when he intercepted a pass in the end zone for a touchback.

Jeremiah Malbroue and Williamson led the Dragons with five tackles each. Malbroue also forced a fumble, broke up a pass and blocked Central State's first extra-point attempt. Williamson recorded a tackle for loss, an interception and a quarterback hurry.

Christian led Lane's rushing attack with 48 yards on 17 carries. Overton completed seven of 11 passes for 45 yards and added 13 rushing yards. Morton completed five passes for 41 yards in addition to scoring Lane's lone touchdown.

Antonio Welch led the Dragons with three receptions for 23 yards, while DeMahri Wallace recorded Lane's longest reception with a 22-yard catch during the fourth quarter.
Lane finished with 171 yards of total offense, including 85 rushing and 86 passing. The Dragons held the ball for 39:41, compared with 20:19 for Central State, and converted two of their three fourth-down attempts.

Central State finished with 358 total yards and scored five touchdowns through the air. However, the Lane defense limited the Marauders to 98 yards after halftime and prevented them from adding to their lead during the final two quarters.
