Lane sweeps Rust in doubleheader

JACKSON, Tenn. - Lane used power at the plate in game one and a dominant start on the mound in game two to secure a doubleheader sweep of Rust on Tuesday in Jackson.

Game 1 — Lane 12, Rust 6

The Dragons wasted no time answering Rust's two-run top of the first with a thunderous bottom half of the inning.

After a single and hit-by-pitch set the table, Anderson Jorge launched a three-run homer down the right field line to give Lane the lead. Two batters later, Gabriel Garza added a solo shot to make it 4–2 before Rust could settle in.

Rust briefly closed the gap with a two-run homer in the third to make it 5–4, but Lane methodically took control from there.

Garza delivered again in the fifth with a two-run double to stretch the lead to 7–4. The game broke open in the sixth when Lane capitalized on Rust miscues and extra-base hits. Edrick Rivera Mendez started the rally with an RBI double, Connoer Russell added a sacrifice fly, Jorge ripped an RBI triple, and Teagan Davies capped the five-run frame with a two-run homer.

Davies and Garza each finished with two hits and three RBI, while Jorge went 2-for-3 with a homer, triple, four RBI, and three runs scored.

On the mound, Brandon Chapa earned the win with 6.1 innings of work, scattering nine hits and striking out three before Brennen Smith recorded the final two outs.

Game 2 — Lane 6, Rust 2

Game two belonged to Toris Bolden.

After Rust scratched across two runs in the first inning, Bolden completely settled in and never allowed the Bearcats to regain momentum. The lefty tossed a complete-game, allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Trailing 2–0, Lane flipped the game in the fourth inning with a five-run outburst.

Desean Rogers worked a leadoff walk and Jorge followed with a double to set the table. Davies delivered a two-run single to tie the game, Jermaine Purvis doubled to continue the rally, and Juan Rodriguez drove in a run with a groundout. Moments later, Rivera Mendez and Cason Blunt added RBI hits to give Lane a 5–2 lead.

Lane added an insurance run in the sixth when Purvis singled, advanced on a hit, and scored on Russell's sacrifice fly.

Blunt led the offense in game two with two hits and an RBI, while Purvis scored twice and Davies drove in two.
