TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The Lane College baseball team put together an impressive weekend on the road, sweeping a doubleheader from Tuskegee University on Friday.
Game One: Lane 10, Tuskegee 3
Lane broke open a tight contest with a six-run fourth inning and never looked back in a 10-3 victory to open the series.
After falling behind 1-0 in the third, Lane's offense erupted in the fourth. The inning featured five hits, aggressive baserunning, and timely RBI knocks. Christopher Martinez, Wilfredo Soto, and Cason Blunt each delivered RBI singles, while Brandon Chapacapped the rally with a two-run single to give Lane a 6-1 advantage.
Lane added an insurance run in the sixth when Trey Babbitt singled home a run, and the offense put the game out of reach in the ninth with three more runs. Soto added another RBI single in the frame and later scored on a wild pitch as Lane reached double figures.
Soto finished with two hits and two RBIs, Chapa drove in two, and Martinez added two RBIs of his own. The team totaled 11 hits and swiped multiple bases to keep pressure on Tuskegee throughout the afternoon.
On the mound, Anderson Jorge earned the win, tossing six strong innings while allowing just two hits and one run, striking out seven. Leonardo Albornoz Salas and Connor Russell combined to close out the final three innings.
Game Two: Lane 7, Tuskegee 3
Lane carried the momentum into the second game, using a five-run sixth inning to pull away for a 7-3 win and complete the sweep.
The Dragons struck first in the opening inning when Desean Rogers tripled and scored on an RBI single from Teagan Davies. Tuskegee tied the game in the fifth, but Lane responded emphatically in the sixth.
After a pair of hit batters set the table, Juan Rodriguez delivered an RBI double to break the tie. A balk plated another run before Jorge and Rogers delivered clutch hits, including a two-run double by Rogers to extend the lead to 6-1.
Chapa continued his big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, RBI, and a stolen base. Rogers finished with a triple, double, and two RBIs, while Rodriguez added a key RBI double.
On the mound, Roberto Perez went the distance, throwing a complete-game seven-inning effort. He allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out four and walking none to move to 2-0 on the year.
