NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Lane College baseball team opened the 2026 season with two wins this past weekend, picking up victories over Rust College and Xavier (La.) to kick off the campaign.
Game 1: Lane 12, Rust 5 (Feb. 6)
The Dragons jumped out early and never looked back in a 12–5 win over Rust College. Lane scored two runs in the first inning and added runs in five different frames to secure the season-opening victory.
Offensively, Lane capitalized on patience at the plate, drawing 12 walks while swiping multiple bases to pressure the Rust defense. Teagan Davies delivered a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run, while Christopher Martinez added a two-run homer and three RBIs. Desean Rogers tripled and scored three times, and the Dragons finished with seven hits and 12 runs on the scoreboard.
On the mound, Saul Carrasco earned the win with four innings of work, allowing two runs while striking out three. Anderson Jorge pitched the final three innings, striking out five and closing out the victory.
Game 2: Lane 10, Xavier (La.) 5 (Feb. 7)
Lane followed up with a 10–5 win over Xavier (La.), highlighted by an explosive eight-run sixth inning that broke the game open. After Xavier scored three unearned runs in the third, the Dragons responded with consistent offense and a decisive rally in the middle innings.
Jorge led the way, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Derek Castillo and Davies each recorded three hits. Davies also blasted a three-run home run during the sixth-inning surge and finished with four RBIs.
Roberto Perez picked up the win on the mound, throwing three innings and allowing three unearned runs. Leonardo Albornoz Salas added three scoreless innings in relief, and the bullpen closed out the game to secure the series sweep.
