The contest marked the 15th meeting between the conference opponents since 2011. Kentucky State now leads the series 10-5.

Kentucky State established an early advantage by scoring four touchdowns during the opening quarter. The Thorobreds connected on touchdown passes of 65 and 50 yards before adding two more scores to take a 28-0 lead into the second period.

Lane's defense created a scoring opportunity early in the second quarter when Charles Ingram V intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it eight yards, ending a Kentucky State drive that had reached the Dragons' 11-yard line.

The Dragons found the end zone later in the quarter with a 10-play, 75-yard possession that lasted more than six minutes. Freshman quarterback Crishon Overton connected with DeMahri Wallace for 24 yards before finding Tametrius Pogue for a 25-yard gain that moved Lane to the Kentucky State 26-yard line.

Facing fourth-and-15 later in the possession, Overton completed a 19-yard pass to Michael Baugh to extend the drive. He then connected with Antonio Welch for a 12-yard touchdown. Maxwell Jean-Louis completed the two-point conversion pass to make the score 35-8.

Kentucky State added a touchdown and a field goal before halftime to enter the break with a 45-8 advantage.

The drive included consecutive runs of 18 and 11 yards by John Christian III and a nine-yard rush that moved the Dragons into the red zone.

The possession carried into the fourth quarter and ended when Pogue found Rkisch Hyppolyte for a six-yard touchdown on fourth down, cutting the score to 48-14.
