Lane picks up first win of the season over Savannah State

JACKSON, Tenn. — Lane College put on an offensive clinic Saturday evening inside J.F. Lane Gymnasium, shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor on its way to a dominant 94–75 victory over Savannah State in SIAC play.

The Dragons (1–1, 1–1 SIAC) seized control with a 51-point second half and turned defensive pressure into points at will, scoring 33 points off turnovers and 30 fast-break points — a combination Savannah State could never overcome.

Lane was fueled by a monster performance from Elijah Lewis, who finished with 32 points, knocking down 9 of 14 from the field, 5 of 6 from three, and 9 of 10 at the line, while adding five steals.

Lewis set the tone early with seven first-half threes for the Tigers, and he continued to produce when it mattered most — scoring key baskets anytime Savannah State mounted a push.

Lewis was far from alone. The Dragons had four players score in double figures, including:

  • Elijah Geer-Dawson — 16 points, 5 assists, 4 steals

  • Jaiden Lee — 14 points, 5 rebounds

  • Jarrell Love — 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals

Lane's depth and tempo were defining factors. Every player in the rotation impacted the game, and the Dragons' bench outscored Savannah State's 17–10 while sparking several momentum-swing runs.

Savannah State kept things tight midway through the second half, tying the game at 65–65 with 9:35 left. But from there, Lane slammed the door with a 29–10 closing run, fueled by fast-break finishes off turnovers, including back-to-back transition dunks from Lewis and Love that electrified the gym and pushed the lead into double digits.

Savannah State (0–4, 0–2 SIAC) was led by Javonte Landy and Zion Davis, who each scored 19 points, and kept the Tigers in striking distance early behind hot three-point shooting. But the visitors cooled in the second half, hitting only 1 of 7 threes after halftime, while Lane's defensive pressure mounted.
