JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lane College Dragons secured a hard-fought 79-70 victory over the Allen University Yellow Jackets in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) clash at JF Lane Gymnasium in Jackson, TN. The win improves Lane's record to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in the SIAC, while Allen falls to 4-3, 1-1 in conference play.
Lane's offense was led by Dyani Bernstine, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Bernstine was instrumental in the victory, hitting 6-of-12 from the field and 8-of-17 from the free-throw line. Taylor Lattimore also played a key role, contributing 19 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Breonna Carey added 12 points and 4 assists, and Chantoryia Rivers chipped in with 11 points and 3 rebounds.
For Allen, Eboni Clay led the way with 20 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and hitting 2-of-2 from three-point range. Taliah Wesley added a strong double-double, registering 20 points and 14 rebounds. The game began with Lane holding a slim 22-17 lead after the first quarter, powered by their sharp shooting from the field and the free-throw line. Allen fought back in the second quarter but struggled to make shots, shooting just 25% from the field (3-of-12) in the frame. Lane maintained their lead into halftime, 37-32.
In the third quarter, Lane seized control, outscoring Allen 23-20. Lattimore and Bernstine provided a one-two punch, and despite Allen's improved shooting (60% in the quarter), the Yellow Jackets couldn't match Lane's offensive firepower.
Allen tried to mount a comeback in the final quarter, but Lane's free-throw shooting proved crucial, as the Dragons went 10-of-16 from the line in the period. Lane held off Allen's late push to secure the 79-70 victory.
Lane also dominated in the paint, outscoring Allen 30-22, and had a significant advantage in points off turnovers, 33-21. The Dragons' aggressive defense forced 16 Allen turnovers, which they converted into fast-break opportunities.
Despite a solid effort from Wesley and Clay, Allen could not overcome their shooting struggles and the overall balanced attack from Lane. The Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back in their next game, while Lane moves to a perfect 2-0 in SIAC play, continuing their strong start to the season.
