Dragons take two from Arkansas Baptist

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lane College softball team played host to the Buffalos of Arkansas Baptist on Tuesday, sweeping the team from Little Rock and moving to 7-1 on the season.

Game 1

The Dragons fell behind 1-0 early when Jah-Kaiya Woods lead off the game with a solo home run to center field. Lane would answer right back, scoring two runs in the home half of the first on RBI hits from Kaylee Stinnett and Kela Ray.

The second inning saw an explosion of offense from the Dragons who scored nine runs on 11 hits highlighted by a 2-RBI double from senior Millay Lambert.

It would be all the offense needed as Lane surrendered just one more run to win the game 11-2.

Jersey Cabana picked up the win in 5.0 innings of work. The freshman allowed two runs and struck out six batters.

Game 2

The second game of the twin-bill saw more drama than the first. Arkansas Baptist again took an early lead with three runs in the first on four hits. Lane got two back in the home half with RBIs from Stinnett and Savanna Johnson.

The Dragons would go on to score one in each of the next two innings before the Buffalos stormed back to take the lead in the fourth inning with five runs on seven hits to go up 8-4.

Lane would answer right back, scoring three runs of their own off of a RBI single from Sierra Luster and a 2-run home run from Lambert.

The Dragons picked up three more runs in the fifth inning off of a 2-RBI single from Jonni Sanchez and a sacrifice fly from Halle Koger. Lane would not relinquish the lead again as they went on to win, 13-9.

Carissa Ball led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Luster finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Cabana (4-1) earned the win in relief, going 3.1 innings and allowing just one run on three hits and striking out three batters.

Lane will travel to Atlanta this weekend to play in the BGPSB Invitational with Paine College and Florida Memorial. The Dragons will open play on Friday at noon against Paine. All games will be played at Gresham Park.
