Volleyball wins two games on opening day

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lane College volleyball team kicked off the 2022 campaign with two wins on Friday in the Dragon Classic at J.F. Lane Gymnasium. The wins were also career wins one and two for first-year head coach Alexis Emanuel.

Lane 3
Tougaloo 0

The Dragons disposed of the Bulldogs in three sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) to earn their first victory of the season. Sophomore transfer Anayah Goss led the Lane attack with 7.5 points followed by freshman Kyra Gatson who had seven points. Returners Bre'elle Hawkins and Maia Thompson both had 6.5 points while Jazmyne Jones recorded 21 assists.

Talladega 0

In front of a packed crowd, Lane made it a clean sweep on day one, downing the Tornadoes of Talladega (25-18, 25-20, 25-20). Hawkins was the leading point getter in game two, finishing with 16 points and 14 kills. Gatson tallied 11 points and Jones registered 23 assists.

Lane will be in action again on Saturday with games at noon and 4:00 against Tougaloo and Rust College.
