Late pick seals victory for Dragons

by Joel Worthington

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Head football coach Vyron Brown and the Lane football team spent their second straight weekend in Georgia and like last week, the Dragons are returning home with a victory.

Down 24-14 with under 10 minutes to play in the game, quarterback Michael Huntley led the Dragons on a 15 play, 79-yard drive capped by a 3-yard touchdown pass to defensive end Andrew Farmer who was in the game as a tight end.

"We went with the hot hand late," said Brown of going with Huntley at quarterback down the stretch. "Mike had his timing down well and we needed a spark, and he came in the game and led the offense well."

A bad snap foiled the extra point and made the score 24-20.

Fort Valley picked up a first down on the following drive before an errant pass downfield from Tyrell Jackson found Lane defensive back Walter Tatum who picked it off and gave the visitors the ball with 7:17 to go at their own 25-yard line.

Huntley found Anthony Evelyn on the first play and the senior took it 43 yards to the home 32-yard line. Five plays later, Huntley found O'Joshua Bunton for a 22-yard touchdown. The extra point from Noah Shalz gave Lane a 27-24.

FVSU threatened on their last possession, moving the ball 46 yards on seven plays before Tatum again intercepted an errant pass from Jackson in the endzone to seal the victory for the Dragons.

Brown was thankful after the game for the support his team had from the Lane family: "We are blessed and thankful for the support from the Lane community. We appreciate all the prayers and well wishes from the alums and supporters."

The Dragons will play Edward Waters next Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla. At 6:00 PM EST.
