by Joel Worthington

JACKSON, Tenn. | The Lane College baseball team hosted Xavier (La.), the number one ranked HBCU in the country, on Tuesday in a doubleheader at the Ballpark at Jackson.

After dropping game one to the visitors by a score of 4-1, the Dragons bounced back to earn a huge victory heading into next week's HBCU World Series tournament.

The hosts surrendered a run in the top of the first but answered back in the home half when Zach Elias earned a leadoff walk and later scored on a groundout by Christian Armstrong.

Lane added another run in the bottom of the second when a sacrifice fly from Jahneal Armstrong plated Melvin Crayton.

The two teams then went scoreless until the Dragons exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by triples from Tavariz Brown and C. Armstrong and a double by Elias.

Ta. Brown ended the game 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Elias was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Treviz Brown (3-0) earned the win in 4.0 innings of work. Tr. Brown allowed just one hit and one run while striking out five batters.

Lane will wrap up their season next week in Montgomery when they take part in the HBCU World Series tournament where they will defend their 2020 national championship. Game times and bracket will be released later this week.
