Baseball splits Saturday DH with Miles

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Lane College baseball team traveled to Birmingham for a weekend series with conference rival Miles College at historic Rickwood Field.

Game 1

Miles 4

Trailing 4-2 entering their final at-bat, the Dragons pushed three runs across to take a one run lead highlighted by an RBI single from Christian Armstrong.

The hosts would bring the tying run to third base in the home half of the final stanza before Javien Woods came out to strike out the only batter he faced and earn his second save of the season.

Zach Elias (2-2) picked up the win in 6.2 innings of work. Elias allowed four runs on six hits and struck out six batters while adding two RBI at the plate.

Game 1
Lane 6
Miles 7

The cardiac kids were at it again in game two as Lane trailed 6-1 entering their final at-bat. Kalum Banks opened the inning with a single before the Golden Bears earned back-to-back strikeouts to bring the visitors to their final out. Treviz Brown homered to right field to bring the deficit to three runs.

After three straight walks to load the bases, Thomas Arias doubled to left field and cleared the bases to tie the game 6-6.

The comeback came up just short as Miles salvaged the inning with just a tie game before manufacturing a run capped by a pinch-hit RBI single from Drake Fondren.

Arias led the way at the plate going 2-for-2 with three RBI and two walks.

The two teams are back at it on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at noon at Rickwood Field.
