TUSKEGEE, Ala. (April 7, 2019) - The Lane College baseball team has already made history this season, winning a program record seven games in a row. Chalk three more up to that as the Dragons took the first three from host Tuskegee University to extend their win streak to 10 games before falling in the final game of the series 9-8 on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1
Lane 10, Tuskegee 3
The Dragons jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the third and never trailed as they tacked on three more in the fifth and three more in the sixth to pick up the Game 1 win in convincing fashion Saturday afternoon. Six Dragons finished the game with multiple hits as the team finished with 10 runs off 16 hits.
Christian Armstrong finished 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth.Â
Game 2
Lane 6, TU 3
For the second straight game the Lane College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, this time in the top of the first inning en route to a 6-3 win in the second game of the day on Saturday.
Melvin Crayton finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Joel Ballard picked up the win for the Dragons. He gave up three earned runs off nine hits, struck out one and walked three in 6.0 innings.
Courtney Joyner picked up the save, coming in relief in the top of the seventh.
Game 3
Lane 14, TU 4
Chris O'Neal led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to score the first run of the inning and hit a RBI single to score the final run off the inning as the Dragons blew the game wide open, scoring seven runs to take a 11-3 advantage en route to a 14-4 win for their 10th straight victory. Joyner, playing left field, finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. O'Neal and Crayton both finished 3-for-5 in the game with O'Neal added two RBI.Â
Game 4
Tuskegee 9, Lane 8
The Dragons scored three in the top of the sixth but came up one run shy as the Golden Tigers avoided the sweep, picking up the win in the final game of the series, 9-8.
Treviz Brown finished 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and one RBI.
The Dragons are on the road this weekend when they head to Fairfield, Ala. to take on Miles College for a four-game series starting Saturday at noon, CST.
