Baseball wins Third Straight, Sweeps Crowley's Ridge

JACKSON, Tenn. (March 26, 2019) - The Lane College Baseball team has now won three straight for the first time this season after sweeping visiting Crowley's Ridge in a doubleheader Tuesday at Lane Field. The Dragons are coming off a 10-8 road win over Kentucky State last Sunday. 

Game 1
Lane 9, Crowley's Ridge 6


Lane College shortstop Keishaun Clark put the Dragons ahead for good when he hit a grand slam homerun to the furthest part of the park, knocking one over the centerfield fence to give Lane a 9-6 advantage. Barry Hamer came in relief in the sixth and pitched a one strikeout, hitless inning while Zach Elias picked up the save, holding Crowley's Ridge scoreless in the top of the seventh. 

Clark finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Hamer also finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a RBI and two runs scored.

Game 2
Lane 12, Crowley's Ridge 3


The Dragons jumped out to an early 3-0 thanks in part to a two-run homerun to right center in the bottom of the first from Lane third baseman Melvin Crayton. After the Pioneers cut the lead in the following inning, Dragons' first baseman Christian Armstrong responded with a two-run shot of his own, giving Lane a 6-2 cushion. Elias also hit hist first home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, stretching the lead to 9-2.

Lane pitcher Joel Ballard picked up the win, giving up three earned runs off two hits. Ballard also struck out six while walking only three in 6.0 innings.

The Dragons are back in action this Thursday when they take on SIAC foe Lemoyne-Owen College. First pitch from Lane Field is set for noon with a the second game of the scheduled doubleheader following the conclusion of Game 1.
