Lady Dragons Improve to 2-1 on Five-Game Road Trip

MOBILE, Ala. (January 31, 2019) - After struggling from the field in the previous game on this five-game road swing, The Lane College women's basketball team found their rhythm as the shot nearly 43 percent from the floor to knock off host Spring Hill College on Thursday evening, 75-68, to improve to 2-1 in the current road trip and 7-6 in SIAC conference play.

After being outscored 16-9 in the first 10 minutes, the Lady Dragons used a 25-13 second quarter to take a 37-31 halftime lead thanks to an 8-0 run to end the quarter. But the Lady Badgers would not give up, coming back from the halftime deficit to retake the lead with just 11 seconds left in the third quarter.

But just like in the first half, Lane would use the final frame of the half to pull away, this time outscoring Spring Hill 21-13 to take the win. Four Lady Dragons finished in double figures while seven of the eight players that saw action scored in the contest.

Senior guard Antrice McCoy led Lane with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and was 4-of-6 from the line in the final two minutes to help seal the victory. Newcomer Cierra Brown had a season-high 14 points and was a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Chasity Moore finished with 13 points and a team-leading seven rebounds. She also added three steals, two assists and a blocked shot. Alexis Harris added 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and an assist.

As a team, the Lady Dragons shot 80 percent from the charity stripe and 39 percent from the 3-point line.

Game 4 of the current road trip is just up the road when the Lady Dragons travel up the road to take on SIAC Western Division foe Tuskegee University. Tip off on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
