Lane loses a heartbreaker at home to Golden Rams

JACKSON, Tenn. (September 22, 2018) - Down a single score with time winding down in the fourth quarter, the Lane College football team was looking at a scenario most coaches do not have a play drawn up for. A fourth and 24 on their own 25 yard line with 96 seconds left in the game. But Dragons' head coach Derrick Burroughs called a timeout to regroup his team and out of the huddle senior quarterback Marcus Reynolds, scrambled out of the pocket, with everyone thinking he was going to run the ball, heaved a bullet downfield to wide receiver Quantavius Wilson who picked up some extra yards of his own to get to the Albany State 37 yard line with just under a minute to play to give the Dragons a chance to win or tie the game on a cloudy day at Lane Field.

But that's where the comeback stalled as the Golden Rams were able to hold for the final minute to pick up the win 14-7 on the final game of this homestand.

Reynolds finished the game 14-for-30 with 150 yards in the air and one touchdown, an 18 yard pass to senior wide receiver Omauri Hampton to put the Dragons on the board and in striking range with 6:33 left in the fourth quarter.

Reynolds was able to utilize a short field due to the forced fumble and recovery by safety Jeffery Johnson at the Albany 39 yard line. From there, Reynolds completed three of his four passes finding Hampton twice and Wilson once to put the Dragons on the board.

Joshua Jeffery led the ground attack for Lane College, averaging 4.2 yards per carry.

The Dragons are on the road this week as the head to 2017 SIAC Champion Tuskegee University.

Kickoff from Tuskegee, Alabama is set for 1 p.m.
