Baseball sweeps Concordia in walk-off fashion

JACKSON, Tenn. (April 10, 2018) - As the season winds down, the Lane College baseball team's bats have come alive, just in time to make a final playoff push. The Dragons knocked off visiting Concordia College (AL) in a double header Tuesday afternoon at Hub City Field, both wins coming by way of the walk-off single.
Game 1
Concordia 8, Lane 9
After falling behind 8-7 in the top of the sixth, the Dragons held the Hornets in the top of the seventh and rallied back to pick up the win, 9-7. The comeback started in the bottom of the frame when
Christian Armstrong hit a one-out single to center field. AfterÂ
Keishaun Clark came in to run for Armstrong,
Chris O'Neal ripped a double to left center, scoring Clark from first, tying the game up at 8-apiece.
Konard Yancie came in for O'Neal and, after
Melvin Crayton walked, Yancie stole third and scored on a
Clemia Jackson single to left field to pick up the 9-8 win. Armstrong finished the first game 2-for-3 with two RBI. Zachary Elias went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Terrell Walker pick up the win, tossing 1.1 innings in relief. He gave up no runs off no hits, walked none and struck out three of the four batters he faced.Â
Game 2
Concordia 11, Lane 12
The Dragons found themselves in a familiar situation in the final game of the double header, giving up three runs in the top of the seventh, falling behind 11-10 with only three outs remaining. This time it was O'Neal that was first up to bat in the bottom of the frame. After O'Neal walked,
Treviz Brown was put in as a pinch runner and on the next pitch stole second to put the tying run in scoring position. Crayton then tied the game on a single to left field. He also advanced on the throw to put the go-ahead run on second.
Courtney Joyner followed that up with a line shot up the middle to give Lane College it's second come from behind victory of the day, 12-11. Joyner went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Crayton also went 3-for-4, scoring three times and picking up two RBI.Â
Baseball is back in action this Saturday as they host SIAC Western Division foe Kentucky State University for a three-game series, starting at noon at Hub City Field.
