JACKSON, Tenn. (January 29, 2018) - Everybody knew what was at stake Monday night in Jackson. The Dragons' players knew it. The Marauders' players knew it. The home fans for sure knew it and they made the opposing bench know how fully aware of it they were. Even the coaches knew it, even if they weren't willing to admit it.
Monday night's game between Lane College and visiting Central State University had major tournament implications. And everyone in JF Lane Gymnasium knew it.
Coming out of the break, the Dragons held a one-point advantage, much too close for comfort for the packed home crowd. It took less than four minutes, thanks to a three-pointer from
Myles Lee to push that lead to double-digits as the Dragons would go on to pull away to pick up a 85-67 win and sole possession of first place in the SIAC Western Division. The win improves Lane College to 7-7 and drop CSU to 6-8. The two teams split the regular season with both defending their home court but if the teams end up with equal overall record at the end of the regular season, Lane College would be awarded the No. 1 overall seed in the West thanks to the 18-point margin of victory Monday night.
Junior forward
Kendarius Ash recorded his 14th double-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 24 points and 16 rebounds. He also added six assists, three blocks and six steals.
Terrace Holt finished with 14 points,
Tevyn Roberts and
Myles Lee had 12 apiece in the win.
The Dragons shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the second half. As a team, they forced 20 turnovers while holding the Marauders to only four assists in the game.
Lane College remains at home as they host Tuskegee University this Saturday at JF Lane Gymnasium. Tip off is set for 4 p.m. CST.
