Dragons close out SIAC Crossover with two more wins

HOOVER, Ala. - The Lane College softball team made history on Thursday with two more victories at the SIAC Crossover to run their win total to six games for the week, the most in school history.

The Dragons started the day with a win over Allen University, 8-1. Jonni Sanchez (1-0) got the complete game win, throwing 7.0 innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out five batters.

Penelope Foote was 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Journey Custer was 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.

Game two saw Autumn Phillips (5-3) pick up her second complete game shutout of the week with a win over Savannah State. Phillips pitched 6.0 innings and allowed just three hits. She was the only pitcher in the conference to not allow a run at the Crossover, pitching 17.0 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts and only three walks.

Junior outfielder Takya Garrett led the way at the plate for Lane, going 7-for-14 (.500) with four runs scored and six RBI. Kaylee Stinnett finished 9-for-18 (.500) with two doubles, two RBI, and two walks.

Foote led the team with 10 hits, eight RBI, and four stolen bases while carrying a .476 batting average.

Lane will travel to Huntsville next Tuesday, March 19th, for a doubleheader at Oakwood University. Game time is scheduled for noon.
