Softball has record setting day in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Lane College softball team swept a doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist on Tuesday, running their win total to 28 for the season and breaking the record for most wins in a single season.

Game one was a scoreless affair entering the seventh inning. After a groundout to open the inning, Shanna McNair singled to centerfield and then stole second on the next pitch. Reigning SIAC Player of the Week Shawna McNair then bunted her over to third base where Millay Lambert recorded a RBI single to right field to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.

It would be all the visitors needed as Jersey Cabana sat the Buffalos down in order to close the game. Cabana ended the game with 14 strikeouts, the most in school history in a seven inning game. The California native pitched a complete game and allowed just one hit and surrendered no walks.

Former Lane star and Hall of Fame member Shawnae Campbell recorded 14 strikeouts in an eight inning victory over Crowley's Ridge in 2015.

The RBI from Lambert was her 45th of the season, tying the school record set by Whitney Knighton in 2019.

Game two saw a surge of power from the Lane bats as the offense recorded 11 hits including three home runs.

Ava Mearideth was 4-for-4 with four RBI, a home run, and a double. Shawna McNair was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Cabana recorded a pinch-hit home run in the fourth inning, the first of her career.

Autumn Phillips went the distance in game two, pitching 7.0 innings and allowing just one run while striking out five.

Lane is at home for a conference series against LeMoyne-Owen to close out the week. The Dragons will host the Magicians for a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 4:00 PM followed by another doubleheader on Friday starting at 10:00 AM.
