Softball sweeps KSU; Cabana sets record

FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Lane College softball team finished off a three-game sweep of SIAC West rival Kentucky State on Monday as Jersey Cabana set a record for most wins in a single season.

The wins move the team to 22-3 on the season and 6-1 in SIAC play.

After picking up two victories on Sunday, the Dragons set out for the sweep behind the arm of Cabana (13-1), who was dominate all game. The freshman from San Dimas, Calif. pitched a complete game, allowing just one run while striking out 13 batters. The win moved Cabana ahead of Brittany McElvain for most wins in school history by a pitcher in a single season.

Cabana also picked up a win and a save on day one of the series. She pitched 1.2 innings of relief in game one, striking out five batters to close out the game. She then went 6.0 innings in game two, allowing two earned runs while striking out eight, making her total 26 for the series in 14.2 innings pitched.

Autumn Phillips (7-2) got the win in game one. The sophomore went 5.1 innings and struck out seven batters.

Shawna McNair led the way at the plate for Lane, going 8-for-13, scoring six runs, and swiping three bags.

Kaylee Stinnett was 6-for-12 with four RBI while Ava Mearideth had a team-high six RBI on five hits in the series.

The Dragons were a perfect 17-for-17 on stolen bases in the three games, led by Ariana Battle who had four steals.

Lane will be back at home on Wednesday, March 29th, when they host Cumberland University for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
