JACKSON, Tenn. (March 23, 2019) – The Lane College softball team posted a double-header sweep over Spring Hill College Saturday afternoon. The Lady Dragons won the first game 2-0 and took game two, 5-2. They have now improved to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Spring Hill dropped to 11-16 on the season and 5-2 in league play.
Timely hitting, outstanding defense, and strong pitching were the key in both of the games for the Lady Dragons.
Game One:
The Lady Dragons scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning after
Brittany Ensley reached on a single.
JaiMesia Parks was put in to pinch-run for Ensley before
Delayna Malveaux hit a RBI double down the right field line to score Parks for the first run of the game. Malveaux scored the second run with a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning and later scored as
Kristen Young picked up the RBI with an infield ground out. Outstanding defensive work by several Lady Dragons backed
Kayla Saul as she picked up her fifth victory of the season. Saul a freshman from Florence, Ala., held the Lady Badgers hitless for four and two-thirds innings before they picked up their first hit of the game. Saul allowed two hits in the complete game shut-out victory for the Lady Dragons. Also collecting hits for the Lady Dragons were

Game two started off with a bang as
Brittany Ensley delivered a home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning to give the Lady Dragons their first two runs of the game. Lane added a run in the bottom of the second inning when
Kristen Young singled and advanced to second on an errant pick-off attempt. She later scored on an unearned run off a fielding error in the outfield by the Lady Badgers. In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Dragons added two more runs as
Whitney Knighton reached on a base-on-balls, advanced to second on a passed ball, and to third on a wild pitch. Ensley picked up her third RBI of the game when she singled down the right field line. Ensley would later score as
Jarvaneika Deloach reached on a fielder's choice, picking up the RBI. The Lady Badgers scored two runs in the top of the seventh to close the gap, but was not enough in the end as the Lady Dragons picked up the 5-2 victory. Left Fielder
Kyra Reed hauled in two defensive gems that would have made the ESPN highlight reel for the Lady Dragons. Ensley picked up her fifth victory from the circle with a complete game, as she allowed two runs on seven hits.
The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Muze Park, weather permitting.
